A stunning fine quality Napoleon III Second Empire Period (1852-1870) doré bronze (gilt bronze ormolu) shelf clock with signed Japy Freres eight-day time and strike movement.
Born in Paris, France in the third quarter of the 19th century, exceptionally executed in luxurious 18th century Louis XV Rocaille taste, the curvacious sculptural case features elaborate pierced scrollwork, surmounted by acanthus double C-scroll crest, over a Sèvres style porcelain face with exquisite hand-painted floral accents, roman numeral dial framed by circular beaded bezel, flanked by a pair of figural putti cherubs, above angel mask relief at center, rising on stylized base, coming to rest on scrolled feet.
Signed Japy Freres eight-day time and strike movement, retaining the original pendulum, key included. Tested, working as it should. Strikes/chimes on the hour and half hour.
Superb museum quality condition. Professionally re-gilded.
