This Wedgwood dinner plate is one in a set of four that were made to commemorate the centennial (1853-1953) of … Read more This Wedgwood dinner plate is one in a set of four that were made to commemorate the centennial (1853-1953) of Beaver College (now Arcadia University). The plate is 10 3/8" in diameter. It has a white background with a fluted lip and features a dark pink illustration that fills the well. This particular plate features an illustration of Porte Cochere at Grey Towers, drawn by Benton Spruance. Constructed in 1898, Grey Towers Castle was originally the home of wealthy sugar baron William Welsh Harrison. The architect drew inspiration from Alnwick Castle in England. Personally I think this is the most decorative illustration in the set. The back of the plate shows the maker's mark "Wedgwood & Barlaston of Etruria. Made in England." as well as a mark saying "Engraved by the Wedgwood Studio". As well as that, it is impressed with a date mark of "Wedgwood 6 X 58" indicating that it was made in June, 1958. It would make a beautiful statement hung on a wall where the dark pink color would be desirable. See less

There are no chips or cracks and the color is still vibrant. There is some slight crazing on the back (see photos), and even more imperceptible crazing on the front. I actually cannot notice the crazing on the front unless I look at the photos. less
