Myra Reichel, Hand Woven Tapestries

    Myra Reichel learnt to weave while a student at the Philadelphia College of Art. Rubin Eskanian was her teacher.
    She also wove with Tina Near - later Tina Kane at the Institute for Religious Development in Warwick, New York while studying the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff. She then purchased 5 looms and wove as her primary occupation for 25 years, exhibiting at the Philadelphia Assembly Gallery, Amity Gallery, Community Art Cener in Wallingford, PA, Yonkers, NY, ETS in Princeton, NJ, Gallery 500, Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Woodmere Art Museum, Bryn Mawr College Campus Center Gallery, and other museums, galleries, craft shops and shows.
    Myra is currently the leader for the Media, West Chester and Beyond Special Interest Group for the Philadelphia Guild of Handweavers which she joined in 1991. She is currently working on a Series: Causes and Results of Homelessness, of which Fire, Flood, Pollution, Hurricane, and other tapestries are in process. Earlier The Law of Three Series based on the teachings of G.I. Gurdjieff; The Dreams and Wishes Series depict a dance by Zero Moving Company titled Night Tales, and various Fairytales including the fairytale titled Blue Beard; Prehistoric Flowers depicting various flowers, eggs, and insects existing in primitive times.
