Betty Vroom Fine Arts is the successor to the art and antique business founded in 1965 known as "The Old Fox" which operated in the maritime hamlets of the North fork of Long Island. The North Fork has a whaling tradition and Old Fox Country Antiques, originally located in Cutchogue and Aquebogue, collected and sold the art, furnishings, and collectibles located in these seafaring hamlets. The North Fork's bays and creeks, with their unique, ever changing colors and moods, have been a source of inspiration for en plein air artists. including a unique art group known as the "Peconic Bay Impressionists" . The 20th Century figurative art of the North Fork ranges from photographic realism (William Steeple Davis) to impressionism, and flirtations with later art movements including cubism and abstract art. The fact that the North Fork had been a whaling and ship building region with a strong maritime heritage, exposed its community to far flung places, and our collection, while primarily American, includes pieces from Europe and Asia.
Our collection includes Southwestern and Highwaymen art collected on our travels during the past 30 years in the Gila Wilderness of New Mexico, and on the Atlantic coast of Florida.
