The scene depicted in the panel is truly extraordinary, featuring a Bacchus, group of Satyrs, Maenads (also known as Bacchantes), and Putti in a lush vineyard garden overlooking a beautiful coastal scene. One can even see a ship through the left arch and cliffs through the right archway of grape vines, making the scene all the more enchanting.
The panel is framed by a border of stylized Acanthus, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to the piece. What's particularly interesting about this scene is the sleeping lion in the background, which is an apt metaphor for what happens at a Bacchanal when everything spirals out of control and the sleeping lion awakens.

This sculptural frieze panel was in the previous owner's personal collection for 15 years, and was enjoyed in a sheltered area in the garden entry to their home. However, this work of art would make an incredible statement piece inside a home with a museum mount. It would be a fantastic element to adorn the front of an unused fireplace as a substitute for a fire screen.
