This set consists of … Read more Iconic sixties design by Massimo and Lella Vignelli of stacking plates and mugs manufactured by Heller. This set consists of 6 dinner plates and 6 mugs in a sunshine yellow color. All of the mugs and one plate are stamped with the Heller label. Originally released in 1964 in Italy, it won that year’s Compasso d’Oro award for good design. It was introduced to the U.S. in 1971.
This dinnerware is also in included in the collections of MOMA and Cooper Hewitt Museums.

Stacking Dinnerware is one of the most successful product designs of the Massimo and Lella Vignelli design studio. It takes advantage of the lightness and flexibility of melamine resin and can be stored as a compact group. The manufacturer Heller introduced the award-winning design to America in a range of colors. Massimo Vignelli is an architect-designer known for his graphic design, including the 1966–72 subway diagram and signage system for the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority. After studying in Milan and Venice, he and his wife, Lella, also an architect, established the Vignelli Office of Design and Architecture, followed by Vignelli Associates in 1971. See less
