This rare and unique pattern of china was designed by the industrial design firm of Raymond Loewy for Rosenthal China Corporation out of Selb, Germany in 1952. It was officially brought to market in 1955 and was retired in 1965. This particular pairing of, "Charcoal" and "Script" patterns is currently part of the Minneapolis Institute of Art's Modernism Collection.
This set is comprised of, "Charcoal" cups that are made of delicate eggshell like porcelain with a matte black finish and a gloss glazed white interior. The plates, saucers, creamer and sugar bowl are from the, "Script" pattern and have a delicate swirl or script design in the centers of each and are finished as glazed porcelain.
