1893 COLUMBIAN WORLDS FAIR ETCHED GLASS BELL
These etched glass bells made by Libby for the 1893 Columbian Chicago Worlds Fair were made as souvenirs to commemorate the 400 year anniversary of Christopher Columbus's arrival to the New World. This bell is in perfect condition including its original metal clapper and twisted glass handle with an etched five point star on its tip. Embossed in the glass around the top of the bell is "World's Columbian Exposition 1983". The face of the bell features the etched words "Worlds Fair 1893" surrounded by fern leaves, flowers, and a banner..
4 3/4" tall x 3" wide.
The World's Columbian Exposition (also known as the Chicago World's Fair) was a world's fair held in Chicago in 1893 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World in 1492. The exposition was an influential social and cultural event and had a profound effect on American architecture, the arts, American industrial optimism, and Chicago's image.
