They are very sturdy and have the original spring and web seating design. The previous owners of the chairs, made a renovation attempt to re-do these chairs by starting with just one; thankfully. This one chair has been newly painted in a High-Gloss White Enamel paint with a French Country rubbed and worn finish, which when completed correctly will be a fabulous look, if you are looking for that more current to date look and feel. Needles to say they did not complete the look which leaves the other three of the four chairs in original condition. Thankfully, they did not change the seating on the one they painted and the seating is still the original, but the upholstery on all could really use updating. These chairs do need redone and reupholstered. The amazing thing is that the caning on all four of these chairs is next to flawless as they have been well cared for. See less
