French Perfection! A most impressive and very fine quality vintage Louis XV style ormolu mounted marquetry inlaid bureau plat.
Exquisitely hand-crafted in the manner of important French master ébéniste Jacques Dubois (1694-1763). Cabinetmaker to the king and other nobility of the time, the distinguished 18th century artisan was a specialist in varnished veneers, reproducing the effects of lacquer from the Far East, often with black (ebonized), red, or in this specimen brown backgrounds, decorated with ornate marquetry-work of a very high level of quality. He also happened to render the delicately chiseled dore bronzes applied to his furniture.
Finished in elegant, sophisticated and luxurious Louis XV (1715-1774) Rococo style, with exuberant, profusely decorated Napoleon III Second Empire (1852–1871) taste, the exceptionally executed 20th century antique reproduction features the highest quality solid wooden carcass covered with plaques of rare and exotic woods of different colors in various shapes and floral patterns, adorned with brilliant, finely chiseled and sculpted gilded bronze ornamentation.
The large writing table having a rectangular shaped top with elaborate serpentine edge, over conforming undulating shaped case fitted with a column of three dovetail joined drawers, above curvacious flowing scalloped apron, rising on graceful curving cabriole legs, ending in ornate lion paw bronze sabots.
