This popular pattern, Madrid, was manufactured from 1932 to 1939 by one of the most prolific glass companies of that era, Federal Glass. The pattern was offered in five colors and what you see in the photos is a color Federal named amber, which is a glowing golden yellow hue. Madrid pattern moulds were adapted from Federal's Parrot pattern; only the original Springtime Green and Golden Glow (amber) were made in great quantity with amber becoming the most popular color. Reproduction and new pieces made by Indiana have discouraged some from collecting this pattern. However, with research and careful study the difference between Depression pieces and reproductions are easily discernible both by color and some design variations. These cuties are in excellent condition with little to no visible wear, save a random occlusion, not unusual in glass and original to the manufacturing process. Each footed sherbet measures 4” x 2¼” 2¼” D/H/base diameter; together they weigh 1 lb. 6 oz.; medium is moulded etched pressed glass. For a Madrid Depression glass enthusiast, this delightful quartet will add a sparkling touch of color to any tabletop!
