Each vessel … Read more A striking pair of antique amethyst cut glass hatpin holders dating to the turn of the 20th century. Each vessel is blown in richly colored amethyst glass and finished with a finely wheel-cut diamond band that adds subtle sparkle and texture.
The gently footed form is fitted with a domed top pierced to hold hatpins, a common dressing-table accessory during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. Today they read equally well as decorative objects, particularly when displayed as a pair, bringing jewel-like color and sculptural presence to a vanity, shelf, or cabinet. The deep purple tone shifts beautifully in changing light, while the restrained cutting highlights the clarity and richness of the glass.

COLLECTOR'S NOTE
The color, blown construction, and wheel-cut decoration suggest production in the historic Bohemian glassmaking region (present-day Czech Republic), known for exporting richly colored art glass throughout Europe and the United States around 1890–1915.
While unmarked examples are common from this region, the saturated amethyst tone and restrained cutting style are sometimes associated with the work of Moser Glassworks and related workshops producing luxury colored glass at the turn of the century. See less
