The square features rounded corners with an openwork backseat with circular-section rails adorned with an S-shaped back splat that is reversed on the top and exceeds a little bit above the top rail. The back splat is engraved with a stylized Chinese symbol, probably 'Shou,' the symbol of longevity. There is ornamentation of slightly sculpted ruyi clouds on the apron. The work is from the 1900s and is in the style of huanghuali yoke-back chairs of the Chinese Dynasty. The pair has removable square cushions upholstered with a galuchat (sharkskin) imitation in gold velvet from by Métaphores, model Abysse Doré. See less
