Antique 1889 Seth Thomas "Derby" Eastlake Style Parlor Shelf Clock
An exceptional piece of late 19th-century Americana, this Seth Thomas "Derby" parlor mantel clock features a classic Eastlake Victorian "gingerbread" carved walnut case. Stamped on the reverse with the authentic Seth Thomas date code 981C, this specific timepiece rolled off the factory line in March 1889. The front glass door showcases its original, highly detailed gold-leaf stenciled gothic floral arch and pendulum frame. The mechanical 8-day time-and-strike movement features the official stamped circular "ST" logo. The paper dial face is a beautifully preserved vintage replacement that remains bright and highly readable.
• Condition Notes: Working when last tested (runs and chimes on a resonant wire coil cathedral gong). Mechanical antique clocks can require adjustment after shipping; sold primarily as a decorative piece. A double-ended brass winding key is included. Please note that the pendulum bob is currently missing and will need to be replaced for long-term timekeeping functionality (standard replacement bobs are widely available online and easily hook onto the drop hanger). Mild age-appropriate wear and minor scuffs to the solid wood casing, some chipping on one lower corner.
