Superb sycamore wood bowl circa 1800
This beautiful bowl, hand-turned from a single piece of wood, boasts a superb patina and dates from the late 18th/early 19th century.
This type of container was crafted from freshly felled sycamore, rather than dried and hardened wood. Sycamore was particularly prized for its natural qualities, reputed not to alter the taste of food and possessing antibacterial properties.
