This vintage wrought iron lantern has a tapered, four-sided cage that widens toward a flat rim and narrows to a pointed finial below, topped by a dramatic crown of scrolls. Each panel is filled with openwork of tightly coiled C-scrolls, looping hearts, and interlaced geometric bands, repeated symmetrically on every face and joined to stout corner posts. A heavy, twisted-rope rim frames the top, and from it a pair of sweeping S-curves rise on either side of a carved, acanthus-leaf urn that anchors the suspension chain, giving the silhouette a regal, almost crown-like profile. Beneath the cage, a cluster of smaller scrolls gathers around a teardrop pendant, finishing the form with graceful restraint. The finish is a richly weathered, chalky silver-gray, speckled with traces of rust, oxidized brown, and flecks of older paint, which gives the iron a convincing, time-worn depth. The forged surfaces show hammered texture, visible joins, and the slight irregularities of hand-bent metal, while the open work casts intricate, lace-like shadows when lit. Inside, the cage holds a multi-light cluster with candle-style arms, designed to glow softly through the scrollwork. A black link chain completes the fixture for hanging.
Hang this lantern in an entry hall, stairwell, dining room, or covered porch, or pair it with a second matching fixture over a kitchen island or along a long corridor, where it complements Traditional, French Country, Spanish Colonial, Mediterranean, and Farmhouse interiors. Dust gently with a soft dry brush, avoid water and abrasive cleaners to limit further oxidation, and have the wiring checked by a licensed electrician before installing. The lantern measures 19 inches (483 mm) wide, 19 inches (483 mm) deep, and 40.25 inches (1022 mm) high. It is in good condition, with age-appropriate patina, surface rust, and minor oxidation.
