Antique Jacobean Revival carved oak armchair, circa 1900, featuring a distinctive heraldic shield with two crosses, surrounded by deeply carved acanthus scrollwork and surmounted by a crown-like ornament.
Crafted in richly grained oak, the chair features decorative foliate scroll finials, broad shaped arms, a contoured saddle seat, and turned legs joined by stretchers. Its substantial construction and warm brown finish complement English Traditional, Jacobean Revival, and Renaissance Revival interiors.
With a comfortable 18-inch seat height, this exceptionally sturdy antique armchair is well suited for a library, study, fireside seating arrangement, or as a distinctive desk chair.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
This is the kind of chair that brings character to a room without needing a matching companion. I particularly appreciate the heraldic carving and beautifully shaped arms. It would be wonderful beside a library table, in a gentleman's study, or pulled up to a writing desk. And unlike some antique chairs, this one is remarkably sturdy and genuinely comfortable in its proportions.
