The finely modelled porcelain case takes an elegant urn-shaped form, richly decorated with delicate polychrome floral sprays and ribbon motifs recalling the celebrated porcelain designs of 18th century Sèvres. The composition is crowned by an elaborate gilt-metal floral finial, while finely cast caryatid-form handles flank either side, giving the clock an impressive sculptural presence and beautifully balanced symmetry. At the centre is a circular dial surrounded by an ornate brass bezel set with sparkling crystal accents. Roman and Arabic numerals are complemented by elegant pierced hands, combining decorative refinement with traditional horological styling. The clock is fitted with an eight-day movement striking on a bell, continuing the traditional character of the design. It is raised upon a shaped base incorporating further porcelain panels, floral decoration and richly detailed gilt-metal ornament. Produced under licence from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the piece reflects the tradition of high-quality decorative reproductions inspired by important works within the museum's collections and the opulent aesthetic associated with Versailles and Marie Antoinette.
