The composition centres upon a beautifully modelled child seated within a rowing boat, creating an unusual and engaging narrative scene. The figure and boat display an attractive aged patina that contrasts beautifully with the richly ornamented gilt metal base. The clock incorporates a circular white enamel or porcelain dial with traditional black Roman numerals, surrounded by a decorative gilt bezel. Below, the shaped base is enriched with scrolling Rococo Revival ornament, giving the clock an elegant architectural presence despite its relatively compact proportions. The mechanical movement is accompanied by its key and pendulum. The clock ticks when wound but would benefit from servicing by a qualified horologist to ensure reliable operation.
