An antique French Empire mantel clock in gilt bronze, circa 1830, with a cast figural group above a stepped architectural base. The kneeling, helmeted figure holds a raised horn and is positioned on a naturalistic support surrounding the circular dial. Cast scrollwork and foliate ornament decorate the base and feet. The dark dial has Roman numerals, an engraved central motif, and two winding apertures within a beaded gilt-bronze bezel. The rear opening reveals a bell-striking movemen, a silk-thread movement. The figural casting, contrasting smooth and textured surfaces, and ornamental base give the clock a distinctly French Empire presentation.
