From the historic British pottery manufacturer W.T. Copeland & Sons, this charming 19th-century Victorian aesthetic movement rimmed soup bowl (or deep plate) belongs to their celebrated monochrome pastoral and wildlife series, dating to the late Victorian era (circa 1880–1890).
The pattern, Mother Hen & Chicks, part of their Game Bird Series, the deep center of the bowl features a finely detailed, brown transfer-printed illustration depicting a mother hen foraging on the ground with her small chicks against a rustic barnyard background complete with tall grass and a wooden fence.
The broad creamware border showcases a heavily molded, elegantly scalloped rim that catches the light beautifully, typical of high-end English earthenware of the period.
The back features an impressed manufacturing date stamp reading "86" (or possibly "G 86"). A lovely, rustic addition for collectors of antique English transferware, barnyard motifs, or country-house styling.
