A delightful Italian ceramic centerpiece bowl made for Tiffany & Co. by Este Ceramiche. Raised on three sculptural frogs, the generous ivory-glazed bowl is hand-painted with blue and lavender flowers, green foliage and fine rust accents, with small painted insects and botanical sprigs scattered across the interior. A narrow rust line finishes the rim.
The frogs are integral to the base, each with its own expressive face, painted eyes and detailed feet. They lift the bowl off the tabletop and give the piece a lively sense of movement.
A distinctive centerpiece for a dining table, kitchen island or sideboard. Equally striking displayed empty, where the painted interior stays on view.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
I’ll admit it: the frogs got me. Three little fellows straining under a bowl of flowers, each with his own face, and not one looks put out about it.
What I love is the mix of manners and mischief. From across the room it reads as a proper Tiffany centerpiece with soft florals and a fine rust rim. Look closer and there are painted bugs hiding in the bowl and three frogs holding the whole thing up. It’s the kind of piece that starts conversations at the dinner table and makes a buttoned-up room feel a little less serious. Fill it with lemons or leave it empty. Either way, it’s a leap worth taking.
