A handsome pair of Hickory Chair Fisk lolling armchairs, model HC1904-11, from the James River Upholstery Collection, featuring solid mahogany frames, tall gently flared upholstered backs, gracefully shaped exposed wood arms, and rich custom raspberry-rose silk damask upholstery.
Inspired by late 18th- and early 19th-century American Federal furniture, the Fisk design combines slender, tapered legs and gracefully curved arms with the generous proportions and comfort of traditional upholstered seating. The mahogany frames have a warm, dark finish that beautifully complements the fabric.
The silk damask has a lovely pink-red undertone, with darker raspberry motifs against a slightly lighter rose background. Its elaborate symmetrical floral and foliate design is carefully positioned across the seats and backs. Each chair includes a coordinating loose lumbar pillow.
Part of Hickory Chair's historic James River Collection, the Fisk Chair reflects the manufacturer's longstanding tradition of interpreting early American furniture for contemporary interiors.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
I particularly like the combination of the slender wood frames and the generous upholstered backs which gives these chairs a certain elegance. I can picture them flanking a fireplace, placed opposite a sofa, or arranged together in a library. The rich red damask would be especially attractive alongside mahogany furniture, antique brass lighting, and traditional paintings. T
The Fisk Chair remains in Hickory Chair's current collection, with an advertised retail price of approximately $3,228 per chair, or $6,456 for a pair, before any custom upholstery upgrades. I think that makes this beautifully preserved pair an especially appealing opportunity.
