A remarkable piece of late 19th-century American history, this covered "battleship" condiment dish was produced in 1898 by the E.C. Flaccus Glass Company to commemorate the Spanish-American War gunboat, the USS Wheeling.
Crafted in the company's hometown of Wheeling, West Virginia, this specialty white milk glass contains uranium dioxide, causing the entire ship to glow a brilliant neon lime-green when exposed to ultraviolet/blacklight. Featuring remarkably detailed mold work showcasing dual smokestacks, deck cabins, and portholes, it proudly displays the embossed name "WHEELING" across its bow.
Presented in flawless, investment-grade condition with absolutely no chips, cracks, or flea bites—an exceedingly rare find for a functional antique of this age. A stellar addition to a curated curio cabinet, nautical collection, or EAPG glass display.
