Architectural Romance Meets English Rose

Four Copeland Spode dinner plates in the Mansard Red Rose pattern, c.1930. At the center of each plate, a full red rose with two buds, sprays of fern and green leaves is set against a molded diamond-lattice border finished with a fine brown rim line. The relief catches the light and gives these plates a tailored, architectural quality that sets them apart from the usual floral dinnerware.

The Pattern

Rich reds and soft greens against a creamy ground sit comfortably with almost any table, from white linen to a bare wooden board. The geometric border keeps the roses from feeling sweet, a good match of English garden romance and clean modern line.

Marked and Dated

The reverse carries the printed mark Spode's Mansard, Copeland, Spode, England, along with U.S. Patent 88688 and registered design number 777266. The shape, the rose decoration and the marks all point to the early 1930s.

Condition

Superb, lovingly used condition, ready for immediate use. All four plates are of a matching size and pattern.

Versatile Elegance

Use them for formal dinners, everyday family meals and holiday tables, or mix them with other vintage and contemporary pieces. The striped placemat shown in the photographs is for styling only and is not included.
