The chair draws heavily from 18th-century Chippendale design, with an elaborate pierced and interlaced back splat forming a series of scrolling, ribbon-like curves. Carved floral rosettes punctuate the openwork design, while additional foliate carving extends across the shaped crest rail and upper back.

The arms terminate in substantial carved scrolls and are supported by shaped uprights with additional foliate decoration. Below, the upholstered slip seat rests within a clean rectangular seat frame that provides a restrained transition to the more elaborate lower structure.

The front cabriole legs feature deeply carved knees with scrolling acanthus ornament before terminating in pronounced ball-and-claw feet. The combination of openwork carving, scrolling ornament, cabriole legs, and traditional proportions gives the chair a strong Georgian Revival presence.

The seat is upholstered in a muted blue-gray geometric textile.

Original label beneath the seat reads “Designed by Maitland-Smith Ltd. and Hand Made in the Philippines.”
