Impressive late 19th-century French mantel clock featuring a richly figured dark marble case surmounted by a patinated figural sculpture of a young harvest maiden.
The architectural marble case is accented with ornate metal mounts and raised decorative elements, while the porcelain dial features Roman numerals, minute markings and pierced decorative hands. The sculptural female figure above carries gathered sheaves, giving the clock a romantic pastoral character typical of French decorative arts of the period.
Substantial in scale and weight, the clock stands approximately 22 inches high and makes a striking decorative statement on a mantel, console or library cabinet.
