The back of the plate has the lion rampant standing atop a crown with interlocking HD (Sir Henry Doulton). This style of backstamp was standard for the company between 1901-1922. The handpainted "V" next to the main logo relates directly to the factory painter, gilder, or specific batch reference.

The handpainted script "Ra 9159" stands for Robert Allen, one of Royal Doulton's most celebrated in-house master decorators and oversaw a highly specialized design studio. "Ra" indicates the pattern design originated directly from his personal studio ledger.

"H 879" indicates the Global Pattern Cataglog number for the Royal Doulton factory catalog. Patterns beginning with "H" specifically denote Burslem fine tableware and hotel ware designs introduced in the early 20th century around 1915.

Having both "Ra" and "H" numbers present on the back indicate the plates feature a premium designer-led pattern by the Robert Allen Studio that was officially approved for full commercial production by Royal Doulton.
