Offered are 8 vintage Villeroy & Boch brand "Acapulco" pattern porcelain dinner plates, each stamped and labeled in blue on the bottom.
Inspired by the art of Mexico and created by Crisrtiana Rauter in 1967, "Acapulco" is a bright, whimsical, and one of the most iconic dinnerware patterns of the 20th Century and still highly sought after to this day.
The blue backstamp, which these plates all have, are from the earlier years (brown stamps appeared in the 1980s) until production ceased in 1994. The term “dishwasher safe” was added in 1992, and “microwave safe” in 1993, which is why these have tended to be washed and faded in older dishwashing machines.
The plates measure 10.325" diameter, 1" high.

- The plates come from an estate sale and appear to be several decades old, and well used. Because these vintage … moreThe plates come from an estate sale and appear to be several decades old, and well used. Because these vintage vitrified porcelain (Vitro-Porcelaine) pieces were produced from the late 1960s through 1994 (discontinued in 1994), older examples — especially early first-edition blue back-stamp pieces from the late '60s and '70s — are prone to print fading, gloss wear, or paint loss if they were hand-washed aggressively or run through older dishwashers over decades, such as these plates presently appear. The 8 plates are intact, however, they have certainly faded and lost their green-colored foliage, and there is evident crazing (see photos). Note that one of the plates has a minor chip on the rim, however, it feels glazed and could be a factory flaw. Any wear is commensurate with their age and past usage. The plates are sold in their "as is" condition and will be carefully wrapped and boxed for shipment. less
