An exceptional antique late 19th-century Gilt Metal Boudoir/Mantel Clock designed in the opulent Louis XV Rococo style. This striking decorative timepiece was manufactured circa 1890 by the prestigious Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Company out of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Known for employing fine artists and sculptors rather than relying on automated mass production, Jennings Brothers objects are highly collectible for their superior artistry and hand-crafted detail. The clock is cast from a heavy art-metal alloy and finished in the firm's celebrated, proprietary "Ormolu Gold Plate"—a specialized finish renowned at the turn of the century for its exceptional warmth, depth, and durability. The asymmetrical casing boasts fluid, deep Rococo scrollwork, acanthus leaf accents, and a finely textured, latticed background. It is triumphantly surmounted by a finely detailed, seated cherub (putto) figurine at the crest. The front displays a detailed, engine-turned metallic dial framed by stylized Roman numeral indicators.
Turning the piece over reveals an open mechanical rear compartment housing its vintage wind-up movement. Jennings Brothers traditionally outsourced these internal mechanics to premier historical American clockmakers of the era, such as Waterbury or Ansonia. "J.B. 697", certifying its official production lineage and design catalog number.
With its brilliant gold-toned patina and heavy visual presence, this clock serves as an exquisite statement piece perfect for a mantle, vanity, bedside table, or desk
