The work combines etched linear detail with aquatint tonal passages and individually applied colour, and is presented framed and matted.

The composition depicts a flowering butterfly bush, or Buddleia, accompanied by a tiger swallowtail and a darker butterfly. The botanical structure is defined through etched linework and granular aquatint tone, while pale pink, green, yellow and blue passages have been applied by hand over the printed image.

A visible plate impression surrounds the printed area, with the image recessed slightly below the level of the surrounding sheet. This physical plate mark is characteristic of the intaglio printing process and corresponds with the etched and aquatint surface visible within the composition.

The print is pencil signed by Fred Edwards and numbered 13/25. The edition of twenty-five is notably small, and the hand-applied colour allows for natural variation between individual impressions within the edition.

The work is presented beneath glass in a fitted frame and mat, preserving both the printed image and the visible margins around the plate impression.
