A dramatic pair of substantial high-back armchairs by GuildMaster, handcrafted in Indonesia. Constructed of extremely heavy solid wood, the chairs feature tall architectural backs with bold geometric fretwork, coordinating openwork arms and gently curved legs.
The seats retain their woven cane inserts, adding texture to the otherwise strong black silhouette. Their exaggerated scale and graphic design give the pair a wonderful Asian-inspired, Chinoiserie presence.
These are exceptionally solid, heavy chairs with great bones. The existing black painted finish shows considerable wear from previous use, giving them a wonderfully relaxed, rustic character as they sit or making them excellent candidates for refinishing should a more polished appearance be desired.
GuildMaster maker’s label and Made in Indonesia label remain present.

Numerous scuffs, scratches, rubs, chips and areas of paint loss are present throughout, particularly along edges, arms, legs and other high-contact areas. Finish appears to have been previously painted and shows inconsistencies associated with that application and subsequent use. Woven cane seats remain intact with age-related wear. The chairs are extremely heavy and substantial with solid construction. Please refer closely to photographs for finish condition. We have intentionally left the existing finish as found rather than over-restoring the pair. They can be enjoyed in their current rustic state or refinished to suit. less
