We have transformed a vintage, 1980s faux-bamboo metal framework—originally featuring dense, heavy split-burnt bamboo panels—into a curated work of functional art that breathes our studio philosophy: “Turning the past into stunning decor for today.”
The Hand-Finished Artistry: The substantial metal frame has been entirely refinished using a centuries-old Italian Florentine gilt technique. Rather than a standard red clay base, a rich, deep black undercoat was applied beneath layers of gold leaf. This intentional design theory creates an intense, dramatic depth where the gold structurally catches light unevenly across the bamboo nodes. The finish was further elevated with multiple hand-applied glazes, subtle fly-speckling for authentic texture, and an artisan-forced green verdigris patina nestled into the crevices to evoke the weathered weight of a historic find.
The Historical Glass Provenance: The core of this transformation rests on the shelves. The original wood inserts were stripped away and replaced with custom glass panels cut down from a single, pristine vintage sheet by the renowned Carolina Mirror Company officially stamped and dated April 7, 1975 (provenance photo preserved).Unlike clinical, modern silvered glass, this authentic mid-century plate features a heavy, galvanic electro-copper-plated backing. This historic manufacturing method casts an incredibly rich, golden-toned, and warm reflection. When staged, it beautifully bounces ambient room light, echoing the frame’s Florentine gold leaf rather than throwing a cold, harsh glare. This is a true "one of one" creation, offering the structural integrity of a fresh restoration with the rich soul of mid-century substance.
