Each plate features a highly stylized coiled dragon surrounded by swirling red and gold flame-like accents. Raised moriage detailing gives the dragon scales and decorative lines their distinctive dimensional texture. Moriage is a traditional Japanese decorative technique in which slip is applied to create raised designs on the porcelain surface.

Dragonware in this style was produced by a number of Japanese potteries and export companies, particularly during the mid-20th century.
