The open, curvilinear design reflects the transition from late Victorian ornament toward the more fluid forms associated with Art Nouveau. Particularly appealing are the engraved brass fittings, which introduce small floral and geometric details throughout the otherwise clean spindle construction.

The brass retains a mellow, naturally aged surface with variations in tone and patina. Original-style iron side rails accompany the bed.

JUNE'S THOUGHTS
This is a dramatic bed, and I mean that in the best possible way. The nearly six-foot-high headboard gives a bedroom real presence, while the open brasswork keeps the scale from becoming heavy. I would leave the old brass just as it is—the mellow, varied surface is part of what makes the bed so appealing.
