THE GUEST BEDROOM — The Daybed
A welcoming place to rest, even when no one is staying over.
20th-century Thai hardwood daybed featuring a three-sided slatted gallery, substantial square posts, geometric finials, traditional exposed wooden locking pegs, and a rich dark brown finish. Its generous 84-inch length and 46-inch width make it equally suited for lounging or accommodating an overnight guest.
The knock-down frame is secured with traditional-style wooden pegs and four additional screws, while removable wood platform panels support the fitted cushion. The clean, restrained design gives the daybed a lighter appearance than more elaborately carved Southeast Asian furniture.
Purchased in Thailand by the previous owners while they were living there. Includes the fitted ivory cushion and two cylindrical bolsters shown.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
What I especially like about this daybed is how useful it is. In a guest room, it provides a comfortable place to sit, read, or put your feet up when no one is sleeping there, yet its generous 46-inch depth gives it real potential for an overnight guest. I would layer it with pillows and a favorite throw and let the beautiful dark wood remain part of the room.

Removable wood platform panels support the fitted cushion. The ivory cushion and two bolsters show light wear and minor soiling from use. One rear wooden locking peg is a later replacement, made to match the original construction. This does not affect the stability or function of the daybed. less
