During the Victorian era, the cigar cutter was an accoutrement that would have been clipped into a watch chain on a gentlemen’s vest. The Victorians had an object for every function, and if you were well-to-do, these objects would often be crafted from 14k gold. This cigar cutter is 14k gold with a steel edge for cutting, as gold would have been too soft of a metal for repeated functional use. A steel arm extends from the body of the cigar cutter, which has a cylinder cone where the tip of a cigarette or small cigar can be placed for trimming. It has a little button on the side with spring action, and the arm opens up when pulled out from the base. The cutter has a great form to function to it, and we love the interesting shape of this object. It can be worn on a chain as a unique and intriguing pendant.
The cutter measures 1 5/8” x 1/2”, plus a 6 mm bail. It weighs 6.45 grams. Unmarked; acid tests as 14k gold.
A great gift and perfect “man-tique”, this is a must have item for someone who loves the art of smoking cigars. It also makes a great pendant for both men and women.
