Here is an antique cheval dressing mirror dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, with a beautifully turned wood pedestal, tilting oval mirror and integrated round shelf. Standing an impressive 67 inches tall, the piece has an elegant, sculptural silhouette while occupying a relatively small footprint.
The oval mirror pivots within a dramatic curved wood support, allowing the angle to be adjusted as needed. Below, a 16.25-inch round pedestal shelf provides a convenient surface for perfume bottles, jewelry and grooming accessories, or simply a small collection of decorative objects.
The slender pedestal is especially lovely, with an assortment of ring-turned and reeded details continuing down to a graceful tripod base with three sweeping curved legs. The warm wood finish has developed wonderful variation and character with age.
Originally designed as a dressing or grooming/shaving mirror, this would be equally charming today in a bedroom, dressing room, bathroom or entry. The entire upper mirror assembly lifts from the pedestal base, making the piece considerably easier to transport and ship.
