An antique American child’s chair dating to circa 1900–1915, constructed from delicately formed iron and steel wire with its original circular wood seat. At just 23 inches high with an 11.5-inch seat height, the chair is a genuine piece of period child-size furniture with the distinctive character of early twentieth-century ice cream parlour and soda-fountain seating.
The openwork back is particularly expressive, combining large symmetrical looped forms with a central elongated scroll and twisted wire detailing. Slender legs terminate in curled feet and are joined by decorative wire stretchers, creating a light, highly graphic silhouette. The warm original wood seat provides an attractive contrast to the dark metal frame.
The chair has remained within the seller’s family and belonged to her grandmother as a child, providing direct family provenance to circa 1910–1915. Its diminutive scale, original seat and intricate wire construction give it strong appeal as antique children’s furniture, Victorian Revival décor or a sculptural accent for a nursery, bedroom, entryway or collected interior.
