The exterior is coated in a rich, vibrant … Read more An exceptional antique Chinese porcelain octagonal bowl featuring an intricate dual-narrative design. The exterior is coated in a rich, vibrant ruby-red enamel decorated using the meticulously hand-incised graviata (sgraffito or zhadao) technique, showcasing micro-scroll patterns under beautifully painted famille rose chrysanthemums and scrolling foliage. The upper rim features a scalloped ruyi-head border, while the tapered foot is grounded by a traditional blue key-fret (leiwen) band. The interior contrasts beautifully with a striking famille jaune bright yellow ground, elaborately hand-painted with an iron-red imperial dragon and a polychrome phoenix chasing a flaming pearl amidst stylized scrolling clouds. The underside features a turquoise-glazed base accented by an iron-red, six-character apocryphal Qianlong seal mark (Da Qing Qianlong Nian Zhi) in archaic seal script. Technical indicators—including authentic iron specks (kiln pitting) in the glaze, a naturally oxidized ferruginous halo at the glaze line, a gritty/porous unglazed foot ring, and heavy, genuine shelf wear/gilt degradation along the rim—firmly date this piece to the late Qing Dynasty (Guangxu Period, c. 1875–1908) to the early Republic Period (c. 1912–1930s).
