It is not perfect, but … Read more This piece is in solid condition, rocks properly, and looks very nice from all angles. It is not perfect, but at over a hundred years of age, it is holding up very well. The chair was painted white by either the retailer selling it or by the consumer. As a result, the label was painted over. There was an attempt at cleaning it up enough to show the manufacturer, but the paper was too delicate to work with. All that was left was a patch of amber colored hide glue residue. To date the piece, the construction was examined, and it was found that slotted screws and both square and hexagonal nuts were used. "Finding a combination of both square and hex nuts on the same piece represents a classic "transition era" for Heywood Wakefield manufacturing, typically spanning from the late 1890s through about 1915." Upon our acquiring the chair, it was thoroughly inspected for any damage or excessive wear. It was repainted to clean up the appearance, and it was tested. The inspection revealed that there are some small broken wicker pieces at the rings on the backrest where it (slightly) looks that repairs were made; a couple of pieces on the tops of the arms; along the top, rear of the seat, matching areas on either side of the seat near the front; and one on the hanging decorative piece at the very front under the seat. There is also missing wicker for a couple of inches up from the bottom of the front legs. The rest of the front of the chair looks to be in good condition. The front and left sides look fine, with few blemishes to be found. The back has a few small damaged wicker spots, mainly at the center of the backrest and along the top of the back of the seat, and the wicker is absent for an inch at the bottom of the legs. The underside looks good overall with nothing found to report. The chair is solid, sits level on the floor, and the gliding/rocking motion is smooth. It has not been used outside, and is in nice overall condition. Please see the pictures for further details.
