Vintage set of four (4) hand-painted porcelain dinner/charger plates. Featuring the traditional, highly auspicious Chinese Famille Rose "Nine Peaches and Bats" motif. These vibrant plates are beautifully balanced and finished with a delicate gold rim.
Crafted of bright white Japanese porcelain blanks, these pieces were hand-decorated and enameled in Hong Kong during the mid-to-late 20th century for the premium export market. Each plate features the distinctive red circular backstamp reading: "Japanese Porcelain Ware, Decorated in Hong Kong."
This specific combination is rich with historical meaning. The peaches represent long life and immortality, while the red bats flying overhead signify good fortune and blessings (as the word for bat sounds like the word for "wealth" or "good luck"). Together, they form a powerful visual wish for a long, healthy, and prosperity.
