This Victorian Eastlake dresser offers drama and gravitas in spades. From its distinctive craftsmanship and drop well design to the built-in candle stands and coat hooks, this beautiful old dresser is real statement piece. It has two larger drawers across the bottom and a smaller drawer on each side.
But what makes this piece truly special is the diamond dust mirror (the "sparkle effect" is visible when you hold a flashlight up to the mirror).
Popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s, diamond dust mirrors were made by spreading tin and mercury over glass in a thin layer. Over time, the mercury and tin mixture would separate and crystallize, creating a glittering effect that looks like diamond dust.
This dresser certainly shows its age and has acquired its patina over a century or so. It looks like a piece that's not afraid to say how old it is (rare in these modern times). The wood shows wear, especially on the top and front. This only adds to its charm (in my opinion), but some of the wear and scuffing might buff out with the proper care and polish. But it's still solid and functional as well. The drawer pulls are still intact and the drawers open and close without much fuss.
