Charming set of vintage porcelain plates featuring an exuberant Chinese-inspired famille rose / Chinoiserie design. Each plate is richly decorated with colorful flowering branches, peonies, fruit, butterflies, insects, and fanciful exotic birds, all rendered in a lively palette of pink, turquoise, green, yellow, red, and black against a creamy white ground.
The intricate, all-over decoration has the wonderful look of traditional Chinese export porcelain, with delicate botanical details and whimsical birds giving the plates tremendous character. The softly scalloped rims add an elegant finishing touch.
The back is unmarked, which can make an exact maker and date difficult to determine from the photographs alone. They show some expected signs of age and use, including wear around the foot rims, adding to their vintage appeal.
A particularly decorative set—wonderful displayed together on a wall, in a china cabinet, or layered into a colorful table setting.
