Originally introduced in 1956, this celebrated mid-century modern design pairs molded wood shells with supple gray leather upholstery and button-tufted removable cushions. The chair is formed with separate headrest, backrest, and seat shells accented by exposed wood grain along the exterior, while padded armrests continue the sculptural profile. Die-cast aluminum supports connect the shells to the five-star swivel base, and the coordinating ottoman rests on a four-star stationary base. Conceived by Charles and Ray Eames as a modern interpretation of the traditional club chair, the design grew from their experiments with molded plywood and has remained in continuous production through Herman Miller. The matching chair and ottoman retain the recognizable combination of curved wood, leather cushioning, and low-set proportions that established the design as an enduring icon of twentieth-century furniture. They are in good condition with visible and minimal wear from usage.
