GG-804 from Glidden's 800 Range - Designed in 1956, measures 19.5" L, 12" W, 2.5" D, Signed, Versatile Deep Divided Serving Platter for Meats, etc. These extraordinary dishes, featured in the International Museum of Dinnerware Design, were designed by Sergio Dello Strologo (Italy) for Glidden Pottery: Alfred Stoneware Buffetware 1956. Well known designer, Fong Chow also worked to produce glazes with herbal designs created by Dello Strologo that decorated the collection. At the 19th Ceramic National in Syracuse in 1956, this Alfred Stoneware line won the 2nd Honorary Award of Merit prize.
Glidden Pottery, located in Alfred, New York, was founded by Glidden Parker. The factory produced a unique stoneware dinnerware and Artware from 1940 to 1957. Glidden Parker had been a student of Marion Fosdick, and well-known ceramic industrial designer, Don Schreckengost, at the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. Crafted in the United States, this bowl is a part of the Alfred Stoneware Buffetware pattern

There were several well-known designers that created shapes and glazes at Glidden Pottery, including Fong Chow, Philip Secrest, and Sergio Dello Strologo. Dello Strologo (b. Italy, 1928-1999), was already an acclaimed industrial designer in Milan and a teacher at the National School of Ceramics in Faenza. Like Fong Chow, and Secrest, he was also a graduate of Alfred. He had worked with Russel Wright redesigning pieces of the Iroquois line of casual dinnerware, and Russel Wright personally referred Dello Strologo to Glidden.

Measurements: PLATTER - 19 1/2 inches long x 12 inches wide x 2 1/2 inches deep ; COVERED POT - 13 1/8 inches wide x 11 1/2 inches deep x 5 inches high to top of handles - CHAFING STAND - 9 inches diameter x 7 inches high- CANDLE HOLDER (for warming covered pot) also included.

Condition: Minor wear consistent with age and use. Covered pot (basically just for collector, very rare) with deep hairline - unusable but stable - top in very good condition. All other pieces in Very Good Condtion. Please look at all images. See less
