The region is famous for its rich multi-ethnic heritage, where communities like the Wauja (Waurá) and Asurini do Xingu craft unique hand-modeled vessels decorated with geometric stylizations. Indigenous artisans traditionally mix local riverbed clay with organic materials like cauxi (freshwater sponge ash) or tree bark ash to prevent the clay from cracking.
