These vintage walnut wood chairs from Spain … Read more A Spanish pair of Renaissance Revival style Savonarola armchairs from the mid-20th century. These vintage walnut wood chairs from Spain have richly carved backrests with crest rails featuring a shell at center top and bottom, with a circular medallion and foliage framed within scrolling edges. The beautifully carved and squared arm rests terminate into turned finials at knuckles. The slatted seat and curved rib construction rest on an elegant folding X-form base that are raised upon rail side feet. This crisscross slat design, often gives these chairs the nickname of "scissor chairs". The warm dark walnut has a nice patina throughout. Note that the backrests are removable. These Spanish Renaissance Revival style armchairs make excellent sculptural accent seating; perhaps flanking a console, fireplace, or entry hall. See less
