This 1960s Young Manufacturing king headboard shows the maker's sculptural instincts at architectural scale. A row of shaped walnut spindles runs the full 102 inch width, each one swelling and tapering like a carved bottle form, set within a clean rectangular frame. The open construction lets light pass through the design, so the headboard reads as a rhythmic walnut screen behind the bed rather than a solid slab.
The unusual width is intentional. This headboard was designed to extend past the mattress so nightstands tuck partially in front of it, tying the whole bed wall together into one continuous composition. It suits a king frame with generous room to spare and can also anchor a queen setup where the extra width frames the nightstands on both sides. The solid walnut frame mounts to a standard frame with sturdy legs.
