Vorster in the early 1960s.

The design blends prewar Danish modernism with the cleaner lines of 1950s American Mid Century Modern furniture. It would sit comfortably alongside pieces by Paul McCobb and Harvey Probber.

Despite its impressive 10-foot span, the headboard maintains a light profile. Heavier structural supports disappear behind the mattress, leaving only slender, tapered legs visible at the ends.

Brass pulls complement the ribbons of reddish-gold grain running through the sapele surfaces. Each nightstand provides a single drawer for concealed storage along with a lower shelf for items kept within easy reach. A raised lip follows the back edge of the top, helping prevent objects from rolling off.

For easier transport and installation, the headboard separates into two equal halves, joined with concealed hardware at the center seam.

The wooden portions are newly refinished and present perfectly, with only a few surface-level imperfections throughout the entire set. The rear panels are newly upholstered in a heathered off-white and tan boucle.

This piece is unmarked. We are certain of its origin, having acquired it with a full set of D.S. Vorster furniture, some of which is marked, constructed in the same style of materials. See less
